MTV News has a straight-up ridiculous amount of original “Twilight” franchise content — on-set interviews, intimate sit-downs with cast and crew, exclusive clips and photos and more.

As we reach Friday’s (November 20) opening of “New Moon,” we had to reach back into our archives and pull out some of the very best stuff — both for the hard-core fans who can’t get enough of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and for those casual observers who are trying to get up to speed before hitting the theater this weekend. Without further ado, check out MTV News’ “New Moon” cheat sheet.

Would Taylor Return?
Following the $380 million success of “Twilight” — with its story of forbidden romance between Pattinson’s vampire Edward Cullen and Stewart’s high school girl Bella Swan — there were two big questions: Would Taylor Lautner reprise his role as werewolf Jacob Black for “New Moon,” and who would direct the sequel?

After the departure of “Twilight” helmer Catherine Hardwicke, the choice for a director was up in the air, and Chris Weitz got the call. His task? Take the story about Bella’s heartbreak after Edward leaves her and she begins to develop an attachment to Jacob and fashion it into another blockbuster hit. The other question was answered when Lautner hit the gym, packed on 30 pounds of muscle and re-secured his role.

The First Visions Arrive
As the cast headed to Vancouver to begin filming, the first peeks at “New Moon” began to trickle out. MTV News debuted the first official logo, a photo of the vaunted wolf pack appeared and set pics leaked out. Finally, the first footage arrived in May — at the MTV Movie Awards, of course.

Meet the Volturi
After the trailers and the photos, we finally got a look at the Volturi, those powerful bloodsuckers who have become a royal governing authority in the vampire world, delivering violent justice to anyone who threatens their way of life: Jane (Dakota Fanning), Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower), Alec (Cameron Bright), Marcus (Christopher Heyerdahl) and Aro (Michael Sheen).

More of Everything Twilighters Crave
As we got closer to the film’s release, studio Summit Entertainment continued to pump out content that all the fans desired. The cast and crew gave us a behind-the-scenes look at what it took to create the wolf pack and the Volturi; clips of Lautner, Stewart and Pattinson popped up on the Web; and then, at September’s MTV Video Music Awards, we debuted yet another trailer.

The Stars Speak
By November, the opening of “New Moon” was just weeks away and the cast sat down with MTV to talk all things “Twilight.” Pattinson spoke about his relationship with Stewart, his performance in the film and what’s next in his career. Stewart discussed the changes in her character from the first to the second movie, how she’s watched Pattinson become a more confident person and what audiences will find truly shocking in “New Moon.” Lautner chatted about the dark times when he was almost replaced, what he’s most proud of in the film and the qualities he shares with his character.

The Future
What, you haven’t heard about “Eclipse”? And “Breaking Dawn”? “New Moon” is just the second film in what could eventually become a five-picture saga, if “Dawn,” as rumored, is split up into two separate movies. The “Twilight” franchise will be around for years to come. And we promise: MTV News will be covering it from every angle.

BOSTON — If “New Moon” is the

low point of Jasper Hale’s presence in the “Twilight” saga, then “Eclipse” is the high. When MTV News caught up with Jackson Rathbone last week on the set of his indie flick “Girlfriend,” he still had two weeks of “Eclipse” filming left. Much of his shooting had been completed, and he shared some of the big scenes he had already finished.

“I got to go back into my old roots, got to ride some horses again, which was nice. Got to put these riding boots to use, which is good,” Rathbone said, motioning to his boots. “I actually can ride a horse.”

In “Eclipse,” Jasper tells Bella (Kristen Stewart) about his life before he met Carlisle Cullen (Peter Facinelli). Unlike Edward (Robert Pattinson), Rosalie (Nikki Reed), Esme (Elizabeth Reaser) and Emmett (Kellan Lutz), both Jasper and Alice Cullen (Ashley Greene) were transformed into vampires before they met Carlisle. Jasper plays a large role in the third installment of the series because he is the only vampire among them who knows how to combat the newborn vampire army Victoria (now played by Bryce Dallas Howard) is building.

Jasper’s backstory, which takes place during the Civil War, will be told through flashbacks, Rathbone confirmed. Though the explanation of Jasper’s history takes up a good portion of the novel, he hinted that the film version would be shorter.

“It was just really fantastic to get to delve in there and to get to don all the Civil War regalia and whatnot. That was a pleasure,” he said. “I had to wear this wool suit of a major, cavalry major. “I got the big hat and everything. Hop off the horse, bow to these ladies, and then I get eaten. And then I get turned!”

There will also be flashbacks of Jasper training newborn vampires while he’s still “a bad dude, a bad vampire,” Rathbone said. He added that training from another film, “The Last Airbender,” including wrestling, hand-to-hand combat and weapon play, was useful since there wasn’t much time to prepare for the fight scenes in “Eclipse.” But Rathbone was quick to clarify none of the vampires’ combat scenes would be martial art-y.

Rathbone said Jasper will tell Bella his story after a training sequence where he helps the Cullens prepare for the newborn army that’s approaching.

“It’s actually the first time Bella and Jasper interact that’s longer than one sentence, or me attacking her,” Rathbone said, laughing. “Kristen and I kept saying it was really nice to get to work together because we had never had a chance to really, kind of, like, get into some dialogue.”

Making three movies together, not to mention experiencing the glory and shock of their sudden rise to fame, was bound to make the cast of “Twilight” bond. Star Ashley Greene said that, for her, it was filming the second part of the saga, “New Moon,” that really solidified the friendships of everyone on set.

“So, with the second one, it was more intimate as far as the amount of people involved,” the actress who plays vampire Alice Cullen said in the October issue of Saturday Night, a magazine for college students. “After the first week or two of production, it was just me, Kristen [Stewart], Rob [Pattinson] and Taylor [Lautner], and then Rachelle [Lefevre] was there for a little bit. Taylor’s super, super sweet, and Jackson [Rathbone], I adore. I love them all.”

Greene said she’s particularly close to her onscreen brother Kellan Lutz and Lefevre, who was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for “Eclipse.”

“Kellan and I are very close,” she said. “I have different relationships with different people, and it’s really great, I kind of get the best of everything. Rachelle and I have this, like, zest for life. She and I can just go and have a glass of wine and unwind, and we work out together and stuff like that, so she and I have that kind of relationship — I think we’re both easygoing, fun people.”

Greene’s friendship with Stewart evolved over time. “I feel like in the first film, we were friends, but with our schedule we were never in the same place at the same time,” she said. “Kristen and I recently got closer.”

Greene also dished about the rabid “Twilight” fanbase, whose desire to know everything about her love life she called “kind of laughable.” She has certainly been gaining more attention with recent rumors of a romance with Chace Crawford and a nude photo scandal that surfaced last month.

“This is my thing: If I was in a relationship with someone that I really cared about, it would upset me if they speculated something about me and someone else because that other person has to read it,” she said. “That’s the part which I haven’t encountered yet because I’m not in a relationship, but I’m just waiting for it — and then I’m sure I’ll hate it. It’s something I have to get used to, I guess. It’s all a part of this job. It’s like the little fine print of dating me: ‘You will now be thrown into this “Twilight” whirlwind.’ The fans embrace everything that we do, so if I started dating some guy they would probably embrace him too.”

Monday’s “New Moon” soundtrack lineup announcement has ushered into the vaunted “Twilight” musical universe a whole new cast of artists. This year’s big names include the Killers, Thom Yorke of Radiohead, Muse and Death Cab for Cutie.

The soundtrack also gathers together a collection of less well-known artists with a ton of indie cred. St. Vincent (real name Annie Clark) — who has been making a name for herself with solo albums and collaborations with Sufjan Stevens — hooked up with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon for the track “Rosyln.”

“He sings in his beautiful falsetto and I’m actually singing very, very low,” Clark told MTV News. “I think there’s something vampirey and creepy about the two of us singing together. It’s a simple, stripped-down kind of song. It’s really elegant and beautiful.”

Clark and Vernon had been talking about collaborating together for a while, and when Vernon wrote “Rosyln,” neither he nor Clark had any idea the track would end up on the “New Moon” soundtrack. “We recorded the song for the joy of it, and then it looked like the ‘Twilight’ people were interested in using the song for the movie,” she explained. “So it pretty naturally happened.”

Unlike with the original soundtrack, all the music on “New Moon” is original and exclusive to the soundtrack.

While Clark has only just joined the “Twilight” family, she’s been familiar with the books since she kept spotting them in the hands of her older sisters and counts herself as a fan of the movie. Her true pop-culture supernatural allegiance, though, belongs not to vampires or werewolves but to the occult, as a result of her teenage obsession with “The Craft,” the Neve Campbell-starring flick about suburban witches.

“We were influenced to be vaguely goth — still mainstream but, like, mall-clothes goth,” she laughed. “It was awesome!”

With her recollection of another teen-driven movie soundtrack — the 1996 adaptation of “Romeo + Juliet” starring Leonardo DiCaprio — Clark can relate to the impact and influence of music introduced to kids through cinema. “I loved that album,” she said. “You swear by those things and you discover bands you wouldn’t have if you hadn’t had this more digestible album.

Clark is gearing up for a monthlong U.S. tour alongside Andrew Bird that kicks off in Indianapolis and has her swinging through the Midwest, into the South and through the East Coast, ending in Washington, D.C. She’ll be in Cleveland when the “New Moon” soundtrack drops on October 20 and, as the European leg of her tour kicks in, at a festival in the Netherlands during the November 20 release of the film.

Just don’t expect Clark to bust into her “New Moon” song during one of the live shows. “I think performing ‘Rosyln’ requires Justin and me in the same room together.”

Last month, we told you about the upcoming biography comic book about “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer. Timed to hit shelves in November (right alongside the next film in the franchise, “New Moon”), “Female Force: Stephenie Meyer” arrives in two formats: a standard comic and a limited-run, 32-page version featuring an illustrated history of Forks (the town where “Twilight” takes place) and an alternate, Stephenie Meyer cover that we debuted exclusively on Splash Page.

Now, courtesy of the crew at Bluewater Productions, we have an exclusive, five-page preview of “Female Force: Stephenie Meyer”—as well as a two-page preview of the “History of Forks” story found in the special, extended edition of the comic. (Click on the image below to check out the full preview.)
Stephenie Meyer

“Female Force: Stephenie Meyer” is written by Ryan Burton, with art by Dave Macneil and Vinnie Tartamella. The comic book arrives on shelves November 11, and according to Bluewater, fans will be able to find it in comic shops, as well as Barnes & Noble stores.

Full Story here

In the “Twilight” universe, there’s no shortage of father figures. For tough, fair and loving, you have Bella’s dad, Charlie Swan. For a slightly better-looking, cooler paternal icon, there’s Dr. Carlisle Cullen. Now, Twilighters have a new one in 40-year-old veteran actor Michael Sheen.

We know that Sheen’s Aro isn’t technically the “father” of the Volturi clan, but in many ways, the star took his role as elder statesman on both sides of the camera very seriously. Recently, we caught up with the star of “Kingdom of Heaven,” “The Queen” and “Blood Diamond” to get his thoughts on the “Twilight” family, a “scary as hell” Dakota Fanning and all that RPattz insanity.

MTV: Michael, at MTV News, we’re obsessed with all things “Twilight,” and we recently premiered the new trailer. Have you seen it?

Michael Sheen: Yes, I did see it. I was amazed to see I was in there.

MTV: Have they shown you a cut of the film?

Sheen: No, nothing yet. I’m very excited about seeing it, as most people are — especially with my daughter, who is a big fan. I look forward to going to the premiere with her.

MTV: You must have a whole new fanbase now.

Sheen: I’m very big with the under-12s. They’re very big fans of “Frost/Nixon.”

MTV: Tell us about your character in “New Moon.”

Sheen: I play Aro. For people who aren’t fans of the books, I play one of the Volturi — somebody described it as being like the royal family of vampires, which I guess is a good description. He’s very calming on the surface, very gentle and soft on the surface. But beneath, he is a psychopathic killer. … He’s a great character, and I had a great time doing it.

MTV: When will we see Aro next?

Sheen: Well, he doesn’t appear in “Eclipse.” He appears again in “Breaking Dawn.”

MTV: Have they told you to set aside some time for that one?

Sheen: Who knows? Nothing has been spoken about yet.

MTV: We can also see some teases of a dark Dakota Fanning in the “New Moon” trailer. How is she in the film?

Sheen: She’s fantastic. She’s scary as hell, but she looks so sweet. She’s got a great character there. People are really going to love her.

MTV: You’ve worked with all kinds of actors. But is there anything quite like working with the maelstrom that is Robert Pattinson?

Sheen: [Laughs.] I don’t know how he copes with it all. I certainly wouldn’t have been able to deal with it when I was his age. He and Kristen are really amazing. They’re fully committed to what they’re doing, and I wish them all the best.

MTV: What’s the one “New Moon” scene you’re most excited to see come together?

Sheen: There’s a great scene that involves all of them. Robert, Kristen — Ashley is there as well. All the Volturi are there, and we’re on this amazing set, and there’s a lot of effects and stuff. I think that will be amazing.

Anyone who knows anything about “Twilight” scribe Stephenie Meyer knows that the vampire-spawning writer has eclectic taste in music. Earlier this year, she blogged about what she did all summer, which included listening to bands you may or may not know like Meese and White Rabbits, as well as some you might, like Muse, Animal Collective and Silversun Pickups.

She’s posted suggested playlists for fans of her book series that includes everything from Placebo, Blue October and Armor for Sleep to Elbow, Coldplay, Patrick Wolf, Simon and Garfunkel, Korn, Incubus, Nine Inch Nails and Right Said Fred.

On Monday, the track listing for the upcoming soundtrack to “New Moon” was revealed and it has the same mix of the popular and somewhat-obscure that fans have come to expect from Meyer. The 15 all-new or exclusive tracks feature some of the names that have been kicking around for a while, such as Muse, who refashioned the baroque “I Belong To You” from their new album, The Resistance at director Chris Weitz’s behest and Death Cab for Cutie, whose “Meet Me On The Equinox” debuted on MTV.com recently.

Other big names include the Killers (“A White Demon Love Song”), Radiohead’s Thom Yorke (“Hearing Damage”) and viral video sensations OK Go (“Shooting the Moon”). But there are also a number of acts whose names you might not recognize, so here’s a quick primer:

Band of Skulls (“Friends”) – this White Stripes-by-way-of-Radiohead English trio formed in 2008 and released the blues-rocking Baby Darling Doll Face Honey in March. They played at this summer’s Lollapalooza festival and feature the alternating vocals of bassist Emma Richardson and guitarist Russell Mardsen.

Lykke Li (“Possibility”) – Another veteran of Lollapalooza 2009, the Swedish answer to Lady Gaga has gained a legion of fans (among them MTV’s own Kurt Loder) for the intensely rhythmic and hypnotic dance music on her debut, Youth Novels.

Anya Marina (“Satellite Heart”) – The San Diego-based singer/songwriter, sometime actress (“100 Girls”) and radio DJ released her second album of playfully sexy pop tunes, Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II in January. Her songs have been featured “The Real World,” “Gossip Girl,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How I Met Your Mother.”

Bon Iver & St. Vincent (“Rosyln”) – He’s sensitive folkie Justin Vernon, whose For Emma, Forever Ago was recorded under the name Bon Iver in a remote cabin in Wisconsin in 2007 and became a blog sensation in 2008. She’s Annie Clark, a member of the Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens’ touring band who performs as the St. Vincent. Her second album, Actor, was released in May and featured orchestrated pop songs she said were potential fodder for film scores.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (“Done All Wrong”) – This L.A.-based psychedelic garage rock act — named after Marlon Brando’s motorcycle gang in 1953’s “The Wild One” — have been thrashing around since 1998 and have released five albums of twisty, heady rock.

Hurricane Bells (“Monsters”) – A side project from Longwave singer/guitarist Steve Schiltz, this unsigned band will release its debut next year. The mellow, country-tinged songs on the Bells’ MySpace page promise some seriously introspective, rainy-day pop gems.

Sea Wolf (“The Violet Hour”) – The now-main project from former Irving member Alex Church, this California act got its start when Church’s tunes didn’t fit into Irving’s more 1960s inspired psychedelic pop sound. As a result, Church broke off and pursued an Americana-inspired orchestral country-pop sound on albums such as this year’s White Water, White Bloom.

Grizzly Bear (“Slow Life”) – The beloved Brooklyn indie-rock band known for mixing folk with electronic instruments released one of this year’s most acclaimed albums in May, Veckatimest. Their mix of acoustic guitars, chamber pop, electronic bloops and gorgeous melodies have earned them major blog props.

Editors (“No Sound But the Wind”) – England’s Editors emerged out of the dark rock sound of bands like Interpol and their inspiration, Joy Division, earning a string of overseas hits with alluring tunes like “Bullets” and “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors.”

Alexandre Desplat (“New Moon (The Meadow)”) – The French composer has scored more than 100 films and TV shows since 1985. He’s best known for his Golden Globe-nominated score to “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” as well as contemplative soundtracks to “Hostage,” “Syriana,” “The Painted Veil” and “The Queen,” which earned his first Oscar nomination.

The “New Moon” soundtrack is available on October 20 on Atlantic Records, exactly one month before “New Moon” opens in theaters on November 20.

Holy girly dress and heels, Batman! We hardly recognized Kristen Stewart when she emerged on the stage (to introduce the awesome new “New Moon” trailer!) during the Video Music Awards in a somewhat sparkly frock, pointy-toed stilletos and a very mod, pixie-like hairdo.

We might not have been so anxious to see how she and Robert Pattinson were going to look had the “Twilight” duo actually walked the red carpet like their fellow costar Taylor Lautner did, but apparently it was not in the cards. In fact, we originally thought they were supposed to be seated in the audience, but according to our sources over at MTV’s Buzzworthy blog, “After the ‘New Moon’ trailer [aired], R.Patz and crew [were] whisked backstage, photogs trailing a few steps behind. When Pattinson finally dodges them, he gets a few secs to chug a beer and watch Beyonce’s performance, bobbing his head to the beat.” So, friends, it shall remain a mystery on why Bella and Edward only showed their pretty little faces for a mere 10 seconds (or so it felt), but at least we got that much, right? Plus, now we know Rob likes “Single Ladies.”
